FAQ
No. Most of my clients are desk workers, gym-goers, travellers, runners, and people who feel stiff or “blocked” from daily life in London. Sports Massage is simply a more targeted, structured treatment focused on mobility, muscle balance and function.
Both can be firm and focused.
Sports Massage is usually more “problem-solving” and functional — I often combine soft tissue work with mobility testing, stretching, MET/STR and postural correction strategies.
Deep Tissue Massage is often more about sustained depth and decompression of tight areas (and can be more full-body).
If you’re unsure, book Sports Massage — I can adapt it to what your body needs. (Related: Deep Tissue Massage)
It’s especially helpful for:
- postural overload (desk/phone posture)
- shoulder/neck tightness
- lower back tension patterns
- hip/glute tightness
- tight hamstrings/calves
- training overload and slower recovery
- reduced mobility and “stiff joints” feeling
It can help when symptoms are linked to muscle tension patterns (for example glutes/hip rotators, hamstrings, lower back).
If you have severe nerve pain, numbness, progressive weakness, or symptoms below the knee that are worsening, it’s important to speak with a GP/physio first. (Related: Sciatica)
Sports Massage can feel intense in tight areas, but it should always be tolerable and controlled. I work within your comfort level and adjust pressure and techniques throughout the session.
You may feel tender for 24–48 hours, especially after the first session or if you train hard. Most people also feel looser and move more freely. Hydration, light movement and warm shower/heat can help.
It depends on the goal:
- General posture tension / stiffness: often 1 session makes a noticeable change
- Chronic tightness / recurring patterns / training overload: a short series of 3–5 sessions tends to work best
- Maintenance: many clients come every 2–4 weeks
I’ll ask a few quick questions about your symptoms, lifestyle and training (if relevant). If needed, I’ll check basic movement and identify the main tension pattern. Then I tailor the treatment to your body — not a routine massage.
Wear whatever is comfortable and easy to change. Most clients undress to underwear for back/legs work, but you will always be professionally draped with towels. If you prefer to stay more covered, I can adapt the session.
Yes, usually a small amount for effective soft tissue work. If you prefer minimal oil, tell me and I’ll adjust.
Absolutely. Sports Massage often works best when we focus on the area that’s driving the movement restriction (for example shoulders/neck, hips/glutes, calves/hamstrings, or lower back).
Depending on what you need, I may use:
- deep soft tissue work
- myofascial release
- trigger point therapy
- STR (Soft Tissue Release)
- MET (Muscle Energy Techniques)
- assisted stretching
- gentle joint mobilisation and functional movement work
Often yes, but it depends on the condition and medications. Please tell me before we start, especially if you have:
- blood clot history / anticoagulants
- recent surgery or acute injury
- uncontrolled high blood pressure
- nerve symptoms that are worsening
- fever, infection, contagious skin conditions
When in doubt, check with your GP first.
At the moment, I don’t offer pregnancy massage.
If headaches are linked to neck/upper back tension or posture, Sports Massage can help reduce muscular tension that contributes to this pattern. If headaches are new, severe, or changing, it’s best to consult a GP.
Light training is usually fine, but avoid heavy max-effort sessions immediately after a deep sports session. If you’re preparing for an event, tell me — I’ll adapt intensity and timing.
Simple aftercare:
- drink water
- go for a light walk later
- gentle stretching (only if it feels good)
- heat can help settle post-treatment tenderness
If I recommend 1–2 home movements, they’ll be quick and realistic.
Yes — I can provide a receipt/invoice for your treatment. Coverage depends on your insurer and policy, so please confirm their requirements before booking (some insurers require specific provider memberships or treatment wording).
